December 1, 2009

Effective December 31, 2009, NetproHosting will no longer be offering hosting services and is closing the business. Our original letter to our clients can be found here.

The purpose of this page is to provide instructions on what to do between now and then to help ensure service is not interrupted. It is critical that these steps be followed in order to avoid loss of service and data. NetproHosting will not be responsible for maintaining client data, content or domain registrations after December 31, 2009. All ongoing billing will be cancelled prior to December 31, 2009.

There are two items that need to be addres: Web/email hosting and Domain Registration

Web/Email Hosting

This refers to a service provider account that gives you storage for your web files, databases, and email accounts. You will need to open a hosting account with another provider for your website and email. We recommend using Site5 for this service as they are the current provider for the server your website and email are on now. They have agreed that if you open an individual hosting account with them, you can then open a support ticket and they will migrate your content for you. Sign up with Site5.

After some additional research, another highly respected company called HostGator may be a good choice for you. It is more traditional CPanel hosting similar to what NetproHosting offered rather than Site5's modified Control Panel. Here's my referral link if you opt to go with HostGator.

(In the interest of full disclosure, the above Site5 link and HostGator link are a affiliate links whereby we will get a small referral fee if you sign up using that URL. We would certainly appreciate it. For what it's worth, we will continue hosting our personal sites in a Site5 or HostGator account.)

Using Site5 or HostGator for your ongoing hosting isn't required. However, we will be unable to offer migration assistance with other providers.

Domain Registration

This refers to the actual registration of your domain with an approved registrar. This is necessary in addition to web hosting if you want to have/maintain your own URL. NetproHosting has provided this to our customers free of charge. However, we obviously cannot do that any longer. You have a few choices:

1. Open an account with a company called enom.com. This is likely where your registration is today if NetproHosting registered your domain for you. By staying with enom.com, we can simply "push" the domain from our account to yours once you provide us with your enom.com account name. That is MUCH simpler than other types of transfers.

2. Transfer registration to Site5 or HostGator if you host with them. This isn't quite as simple as you will need to obtain an authorization key from us prior to signing up with them. However, your hosting and domain registration would all be with one provider if that's important to you.

3. Transfer to a completely different registrar. If you choose to do this you will need to obtain an authorization/EPP key from us before your domain can be transferred.

NetproHosting does not receive any referral money for any domain registration changes listed above.

Note: NetproHosting has renewed registered domains through December 31, 2009. Domains that expire after that date must be transferred before December 31, 2009 in order to avoid loss or interruption of service.

Thank you for your business and support. If you have questions regarding this transition, please contact us at info@netprohosting.com and we will return your emails in the order in which they are received.
